Shillong-Cherrapunji travel story of Meghalaya.

Clouds and mountains always create a strange feeling in my mind. Due to that, we plan to go to Shillong with a group of 6 people 2 months ago. But due to lack of visa, 3 people are left out of the tour. I started the journey from Mohakhali by ENA bus. The reason we got on the bus was that for safety we wanted our luggage to be in order.

Day 1: Arrive in Sylhet at 8 am, have breakfast, get on the local bus, get CNG to Tamabil Border for 800 Tk. Then at 8.45 am, 8:45 am, Tamabil Border, 15-20 people, after completing immigration and customs work at Indian Immigration. Let’s enter. Indian immigration is but completely analogous. Entering immigration I see that there are about 50 people in front of us. We submit our passports there, then about an hour later they call us and sign us the list they have. Then our real embarrassment started as we didn’t take any dollar endorsement so Indian Customs started to have some trouble with us. Even then we crossed there with money. It is good to say that since there were three of us but the car was available for four, we added one more tour member but from the border. After finishing all the work at the border, we went to Dauki to Umekram Falls, Living Route Bridge, Moulinong Village, and reached Shillong at 6 pm. There was no hotel for 4 people with 2000 rupees. The name of the hotel was Hotel Guest. Our car was rented for that day at Rs. 1800. The driver did not want to go as the road to Barhil Jharna was bad.

Day 2: Check out the hotel at 7 am and book a car for Okahaba Falls, Nokalikai Falls, Seven Sisters Falls, Moasami Caves in Cherrapunji for Rs 2,000. There is no break for zip lining in the middle of coming to Shillong, then I come at night and find a hotel and fix the hotel request for 1500 rupees.
Day 3: On the third day we have breakfast in the morning at Lightroom, Umium Lake, Shillong Golf Club, Ward Lake, Elephant Falls and from there we return to Dauki at night for Rs. 3200. We took a long break for shopping before going to Elephant Falls, so the driver started blackmailing us after we went to Elephant Falls, so he would not go to Dauki. And there is no tent for camping for 4 people at 1200 rupees. Then we have dinner and camp all night on the bank of Dauki Umgat river. I think it is better to stay in a hotel in the Dauki market without camping there.
Day 4: It rained all night. I was lying in my tent watching the river and I liked the sound of rain. After that we go to Dauki Bazaar, Sonangpedang, turn around Kransuri Falls and drop the car at Dauki Border for Rs. Because then the boatmen are not under the union. Then we go around Sonangpedang and Kransuri, cross the border at 4 pm and fix the CNG again for Sylhet with 800 rupees. Get off the Sylhet bus at 6.30 pm Or arrive in Dhaka on June 15 at 2 am

Some more information about Meghalaya:
1. I like the first day tour of Umekram Falls. Moulinong Village and Living Route Bridge are good but it seems to be over rated. And the road from Dauki to Shillong is very nice. It takes 3 hours to go. Sometimes there are some view points.
2. The best Nokalikai Falls and Wakahaba Falls in Cherrapunji on the second day. If you can do zip lining in the middle, it will cost 400 rupees, 800 rupees including small steps and big steps.
3. Lightloom is the best place on the third day. It is the best of the whole tour. Drivers know Umium Lake as big water. There is an entry fee to enter it. But there is no entry fee to see from the bridge. There is nothing to see inside. There is a good view from the bridge. Shillong Golf Club and Ward Lake are completely overrated. Elephant Falls has 3 steps. It will take 10 minutes to reach the lowest step.
4. Do not miss the boating of Dauki on the fourth day. Boating at Sonangpedang also. If you want to take a bath in Krangsuri, you will need a life jacket with a rent of 50 rupees and an entrance ticket of 40 rupees.
5. There is a lot of traffic jam in Shillong city so start the tour very early
6. You have to bargain a lot with the taxi driver
8. Even if you don’t know Hindi, there is no problem, Bengali is spoken almost everywhere. And almost everyone knows English.
8. Not Shillong for shopping, the price is much higher. But there are many offers in Vishal Supershop now, you can go
9. Nokalikai and Elephant Falls camera fees are charged for parking and entry fee at each spot in Shillong.
10. India is ahead in the tourism industry because they attach great importance to the safety of tourists
11. Talking to locals or drivers in Shillong, I came to know that there are no thieves and pickpockets. But it is better to be careful.
12. You can’t buy pre-active SIM in Shillong. It takes about 7 days for SIM to be active. Hotel Wafai is also not very good. There is a problem with the network.
13. If you are a Muslim, it is better not to eat in a hotel where there is a park. We didn’t eat, we ate noodles to satisfy our hunger. Later we came to Shillong or ate at a hotel where there is no park.
14. Money to rupee rate is better in Dauki market and rupee to dollar in Shillong
15. If you go without dollar endorsement, you can get in trouble

On the Indian border
In this complete tour from Dhaka-Shillong-Cherrapunji-Dhaka, we have spent about 6000 rupees including travel tax, food and hotel expenses.
