At 8 in the morning we left Kamalapur bus stand and went directly to Aslam Comilla Cantonment by Royal AC coach. Bus fare is 250 TK.
From there I drove to Mainamati War Cemetery on the left hand side road.
1. Mainamati War Cemetery:
The Mainamati Rann Cemetery is the graveyard of Indian (then) and British soldiers killed in World War II (1939-1945). It was built in 1943-1944. This war mausoleum is located very close to Comilla Cantonment, about 6 km from Comilla city. The cemetery was established by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and they manage the cemetery. Every year in November, an annual prayer meeting is held here with the participation of religious leaders of all religions.
Leaving the Mainamati war cemetery, we rented a rickshaw for 15 TK and came to the palace of Rani Mainamati.
2. Palace of Rani Mainamati
Rani Mainamati Palace and Temple are located in Saheb Bazar area of Mainamati Union in Burichang upazila of Comilla district. Locally it is known as Rani ‘Mainamati Palace’. It is known that the excavation work started around 1986.
It is said that at first there was a cruciform temple. It was later renovated to make it a smaller temple. During the excavations, several terracotta slabs and ornate bricks were discovered. After excavations, analysts believe the palace dates back to the 8th to 12th centuries.
Leaving the Rani Palace, we drove straight to the Cantonment Bus Stand. Then there is the microbus service from here. Aslam left for Kotbari. Rent 15 rupees. From there by CNG directly to Aslam Shalban Bihar. Rent 20 TK.
3. Shalban Bihar
Shalban Buddhist Monastery is one of the ancient civilizations of Bangladesh. This Buddhist monastery is one of the many ancient sites of the Lalmai-Mainamati archeological site in Comilla district. It is identified as the 12th archaeological site.
4. There is a new Shalban Buddhist monastery just opposite Shalban Bihar. Must visit. Great place.
5. Comilla University:
Then we took an auto from there and went straight to Comilla University.
We made our lunch from the hotel in front of the university gate.
Then I drove from there to see Dharmasagar Dighi at Kandirpara in Comilla.
. Dharmasagar Dighi
Dharmasagar is a huge reservoir located in Comilla city of Bangladesh. This is an ancient lake. It is located in the heart of Comilla city. The area of Dharmasagar is 23.17 acres.
Maharaja I, the ruler of Tripura, excavated the Dharmasagar in 1458.
The main objective of the king was to alleviate the water woes of the people of this region. According to the Rajmala, the Maharaja ruled for a long period of 32 years (1431-82 AD).
It was named Dharmasagar after Maharaja Dharmamanikya. There are many anecdotes and legends about Dharmasagar.
