Bangladesh is a riverine country. Launch is one of the main means of transportation on the river. Launch service is the main means of communication with the southern part of the country. The launches usually leave from Sadarghat Launch Terminal in Dhaka from 8 am to 12 midnight for different parts of the country.

Numerous launches operated on 45 routes under public and private management. Launches on all routes: Dhaka to Barisal, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barguna, Jhalokati, Madaripur, Chandpur, Khulna, Kaukhali, Charkhali, Bara Mashua, Hatia, Morelganj, Lalmohan, Hularhat, Bhandaria, Ichli, Ichli The purpose is to leave several launches.

Launch capacity:

Launches ranging in size from 1800 square feet to 3000 square feet can carry 250 to 1500 passengers. Launches have VIP cabins, double cabins, single cabins, side benches, floors and decks to carry passengers. In addition, each launch has a separate arrangement or place for prayers. In this place 15 to 30 people can pray together.

Launch shape:

The passenger launches from Dhaka Sadarghat to the divisional city of Barisal are quite large in size and the launches at Patuakhali, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Bhola and Barguna with modern facilities are much smaller than the launches in Barisal. Many of these long-range launches meet international standards. The large launches bound for Barisal have a capacity of about 1,500 (one and a half thousand) passengers. These launches have all the sophisticated and comfortable arrangements. Such as:

However, short-distance launches from Dhaka are relatively small. Long-distance and short-distance passenger launches can be divided into three main parts in terms of shape.

Shape description destination
Large (3rd to 4th floor) with a capacity of 900 to about 1500 passengers. Modern facilities exist. Barisal, Pirojpur, Patuakhali and Bhola.
Medium (two to two and a half storeys) with a capacity of 500 to 650 passengers. Some of the amenities are a bit less than modern large sized launches. These launches travel to Patuakhali, Bhola, Lalpur, Barguna, Bhandaria, and all places in the south.
These small (one-and-a-half to two-storey facilities limited) capacity of 150 to 400 passengers had to be very careful while navigating the big river. Chandpur, Munshiganj, Dohar, Paturia and close to Dhaka.

Sofa-cum-bed rent Rs 500 to Rs 600 A sofa for three seating, but it is reserved for one person. Because you can sleep on this sofa at night. There are also blanket arrangements. There is a TV viewing system.
Deck rent from Tk 150 to Tk 250 Deck means open space for launch. Many large launches have carpets. However, Chadar Balis has to bring his own responsibility. There is a TV system.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ticket collection:

01. As a result of the increasing demand for travel in the launch cabin. Now it is difficult to get cabin booking 3 to 4 days in advance.

02. Cabin booking is only available for cabins and sofas. There are no advance tickets for the deck.

03. Launch cabin booking can be done with 50% advance on the phone. Many launches have to be paid in full.

04. If you want to stop for any reason, you must notify the launch authority at least two hours before the launch.

Launches from Sadarghat in Dhaka usually leave from 8 am to 12 midnight for different parts of the country. Passengers board the launch with 13 pontoons at Sadarghat.

Place of Prayer:

Usually the roof on the top floor of the launch is reserved for prayers where 20 to 50 worshipers can perform prayers together.

Safety and Disaster Management:

The launch has its own security personnel in the interest of overall safety of the passengers. There are 60 buoys and 10 tires and 4 fire buckets for fire safety to save the lives of passengers in any disaster. These are stored in rows on either side of the roof on each floor and next to the cabin. Each buoy can carry 4 passengers.

There are first aid arrangements for providing first aid to passengers in case of emergency. Can usually move up to signal number 2. If the signal number 3 appears, it does not move anymore.

Toilet:

There is 1 toilet for 10 to 20 cabins for VIP class passengers.
For 2nd class passengers, there are usually 2 to 4 separate toilets for men and women.
There are 3 separate toilets for men and women at the end of the ground floor for 3rd class passengers.

Caution

01. Hundreds of people die in launch accidents every year in Bangladesh. So it is not right to get on the launch as an extra passenger.

02. Take care of your bags, luggage and belongings.

03. Do not eat food given by strangers.

04. If you have more cash, you can deposit it with the launch master.

05. If there is a valid licensed weapon, inform the launch master and submit it to the Ansar members.

07. Notice if there is a launch boiler (which can be floated in the water) on the way.

07. You can keep it with a life jacket if needed.

07. Most of the launch accidents have taken place here at the Chandpur estuary, the confluence of the Padma and Meghna rivers. So try to be a little alert when it comes to Chandpur.

Most of the steamer services are run by government initiatives. The steamers left Pontoon 13 for the southern part of the country. Route and fare rates for steamer services are as follows:

Each launch has a Master Officer in Charge, Master in Charge, Driver, Wheel Sugani, Tally Sugani, Clerk, Boy, Chef, Girija, Bhandari, Sweeper and Khalasi.

Toilet:
This launch terminal has a public toilet. It is located on the eastern side of the terminal building. There are separate facilities for men and women in this toilet. There are 4 toilets for men, 4 urinals and 2 basins. There are 2 toilets, 2 urinals and 1 basin for women. This toilet can be used completely free of charge.

Car parking:

About 50 cars, big and small, can be parked in this terminal. To park here in the first 2 hours, you have to pay 5 rupees for a motorcycle / scooter / baby taxi, 8 rupees for a car / jeep, 10 rupees for a macrobus, 15 rupees for a bus / truck.

Charges have to be paid at the above rate every hour after 2 hours.

Other benefits:

There is a Janata Bank branch on the second floor of the terminal building, a police outpost in front of Gate 3 and a temporary Ansar camp at Gate 2. Besides, there is a mosque on the right side of gate no. Here 60 to 70 people can perform prayers together.
