Karatia Jomidar Bari is located on the banks of the river Putia, only 10 km from Tangail town. Zamindar Wazed Ali Khan Panni built the house using Mughal and Chinese architectural techniques. The Kortia zamindar’s house, about 1 km long and 0.5 km wide, is surrounded by a wall.
The zamindar’s house has an iron house, a queen’s pond, Rokeya Mahal, a small Dawood Mahal and a historic mosque built in Mughal architecture. The mosque has a total of eight domes and a minaret 15 feet high. Kortia Zamindar Bari is also known as Karatia Rajbari.

The distance from Dhaka to Tangail by road is about 64 km. It takes about 2 to 2 and a half hours to reach Tangail via Tongi. Buses like Nirala, Binimoy, Jhatika, Dhaleshwari etc. from Dhaka’s Mohakhali bus terminal leave regularly for Tangail. All these buses cost 150 to 180 rupees to go to Tangail. It will cost 20 to 25 rupees to get on all these buses, get off the bus near Kortia bypass and go to Kortia zamindar’s house by rickshaw.
