Durgasagar Dighi Barisal.

Durgasagar Hall is a large lake in Barisal district in the south of Bangladesh. It is located at Madhabpasha on the Swarupkathi-Barisal road, about 12 km north of Barisal city. The size of the wetland alone is 26 acres. The total area including adjacent banks and land is 45.42 acres. In 160, Shiva Narayan, the fifteenth king of Chandradwip, dug this huge reservoir. It was named Durgasagar after his wife Durgamati. The lake was renovated in 1984 at the initiative of the then government. At present, the Barisal district administration is supervising the Dighisagar Dighi under a project called “Development and Bird Sanctuary”.

 

 

 

 

 

Babuganj Upazila
The entire tank is surrounded by a high boundary wall. There are two gates to enter on these two sides. There is a small jungle island in the middle of the lake. In winter, guest birds congregate here. On the eighth day of the month of Chaitra, Hindus gather here for the purpose of holy bathing.

If you want to see the lake, you have to come to the divisional city Barisal first. From Barisal, you can go to Durgasagar Dighi at a distance of 12 km by CNG or autorickshaw.

How to go to Barisal
By bus or by road from Dhaka to Barisal
It takes about 7 to 8 hours to go from Dhaka to Barisal by road. From Dhaka’s Gabtoli bus terminal, regular buses ply to Barisal from 6 am to 10 pm. Buses usually go to Barisal through Paturia Ghat, but some buses go to Barisal via Mawa Ghat. Buses coming from Dhaka stop at Natullabad bus stand in Barisal city.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hanif Paribahan (01713-049559), Eagle Paribahan (02-9006700), Shakura Paribahan (01729-556677) are some of the buses plying from Dhaka to Barisal. AC and non-AC bus fare to Barisal is 500 to 600 TK. It is better to avoid these buses to save time by operating several local buses on this route. These buses cost 250 to 300 TK to go to Barisal.

 

 

 

 

 

From Dhaka to Barisal by boat or launch

From Dhaka’s Sadarghat between 8pm and 9pm, the Sundarbans 7/8, Survi 8, Parabat 11, Kirtankhola 1/2 launches leave for Barisal. And if you want to go in the morning, you can go to Greenline launch. The night launches reach Barisal around 5 am. The deck rent of these launches is 150 TK, double cabin rent is 1600 TK and VIP cabin rent is 4500 TK.
