Speaking of an unknown land port.
Sherpur is a small district in Bangladesh. The district is adjacent to Mymensingh and Jamalpur and is about 30 km wide bordering India. A notable feature of Sherpur is the enchanting Garo Hills across the border, a favorite destination for many tourists from across the country. The land port of Nakugao was established in 1997 along with the import-export activities of Bangladesh and India and the immigration check post. The port is located in a place which is crossed by Guwahati in Assam, Shillong in Meghalaya, and Darjeeling in West Bengal in the west. And from Guwahati you can easily fly to other states of India. Immigration here is not crowded like Benapole, Burimari or Akhaura, there are no brokers or bribes so there is no unnecessary harassment. Direct buses from Guwahati and Shillong are available from Dalu Bazar, 3-4 km from the border. Even then the port remained unknown to this day only due to lack of publicity. Not only that, it is very easy to cross Assam and reach Bhutan border. But it will not be legal to enter Indian transit visa as it is not introduced through this border. However, if Indian transit visas are introduced through this port, then most people will probably choose this port instead of Burimari to go to Bhutan.
However, the border is only a 4-5 hour drive from Dhaka. The land port of Nakugao is relatively easy to reach beyond the border to Shillong in Meghalaya, Guwahati in Assam, Siliguri in West Bengal, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Sikkim, Mizoram and Arunachal, Nagaland.
How to get there: Get on the Sherpur-bound bus from Mohakhali in Dhaka to Sherpur in 4 hours. Nakugao land port is just 10 km north of Nalitabari by CNG from the city’s “Khowarpar junction”. It is best to take a direct bus from Mohakhali to Nalitabari. Then go straight to the immigration office from Nalitabari by auto or reserve motorcycle. As soon as you cross the border, you will be greeted by the high mountains of Meghalaya. The deeper you go, the higher the height of the hill.
Footnote:
If you want to use the port at 1, select “By Road Dalu” during Indian visa application. Dalu is the name of the Indian part when you cross the border.
