The winter has already started in the northern district of Dinajpur. Due to this, the guest birds have already started coming to the beautiful Ashura beel of Nawabganj Upazila of Dinajpur. Red lotus flowers and white water lilies have started blooming in the bill. The flowers have further enhanced the beauty of the newly constructed Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Wooden Bridge.

Sheikh Russell National Park in Nawabganj Upazila of Dinajpur is a land of natural beauty. The park is spread over an area of ​​about one and a half thousand acres, in the middle of which is the historic Ashura Bill of about 700 acres, which is known to tourists as a native fish sanctuary. Next to it is the historic Sita Kot Buddhist Monastery. In 2010, the government declared this forest and beel as a national park, a land of natural beauty.

Recently, the Upazila administration has taken various initiatives to beautify the park. Water hyacinths have already been cleared from the reservoirs by planting earthen pots on various trees, planting various species of beautifying flowering trees along the forest side, and removing illegal structures in the beel to keep the arrival of guest birds at bay in winter. As a result, the national park has become a hotbed of guest birds before the winter sets in.

 

Nawabganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mashiur Rahman said, “A rubber cross dam has been constructed next to the beel to retain water in the beel. Due to this, winter augmentation has already started in Nawabganj Upazila of Dinajpur, the northernmost district of the country.” That is why the guest birds have started coming to the beautiful Ashura Bill of Nawabganj which used to come as before. Recently, a 900-meter long Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib wooden bridge was constructed to connect the forest and the beel. This wooden bridge connects the forests on both sides of the bill. This has further enhanced the unique beauty of the bill. In addition to this, a fish sanctuary has been set up in the bill through a rubber dam. In general, Sheikh Russell National Park is becoming more vibrant day by day with the initiative of the government and local administration. As a result, the number of tourists is constantly increasing.

 

Sagar Hossain, who came to see the Ashura beel and forest, said, “I already knew about the Nawabganj National Park and Ashura beel. Recently, to enhance the beauty of the forest and beel, the longest beautiful wooden bridge has been built there. It is impossible to say how much we were fascinated by the arrival. I have had the opportunity to visit many places but Sun, fresh air, and a quiet environment, there is nowhere else. ”
